Why discipling others is hard and why it matters

A younger leader at CVC is taking classes at Liberty University. He's studying discipleship. He knew that I am passionate about our discipleship huddles. So, for a course assignment, he asked me a series of questions about my perspective regarding discipleship.

What is the most difficult aspect of the discipleship relationship?

1. Finding time for the investment in a meaningful, transformational way in another person’s life.

2. Getting the men to open up about past wounds and how they are playing themselves out in current relationships.

3. Helping people live the Christian life out of gospel-based obedience (the Romans 7:6 new way) rather than a duty-driven, “do more, try harder” obedience (the Romans 7:6 old way).

What is the most significant result of the relationship?

1. Watching people change through personal transformation in their walk with Christ and in their most significant relationships.

2. Enjoying a depth in relationship with the men and watching their friendships flourish.

3. Helping the men develop spiritual disciplines for ongoing transformation for years to come.

4. Kicking off a multiplication process so that others can enter into a similar transformational experience.

What's been more difficult and most beneficial in your discipling relationships?
