How to end a discipleship huddle well

I am in the process of wrapping up my discipleship huddle with the 3 men I've been working with over the past year. It’s time to encourage and challenge one another. It’s time to start thinking about starting another huddle.

Last week, I asked the 3 men to come prepared  today with 3 encouragements to share about every other person in the huddle – a kind of “I see in you…” deal, what characteristics we see that God has worked into each other.

They were also to come ready to share a dream – an “I hope for you…” vision for the others in the group, what characteristics we would like to see worked out in one another’s lives.

For each person, I wrote down a summary of everyone’s words on a large Post-it. Afterwards, I asked each person in the huddle to reflect on what was said about them. What were they surprised by? What was something that was especially encouraging? What was challenging?

It was a great time. Laughs and tears flowed. We believe in one another. We believe in the God who lives by His Spirit in one another. The guys in my group heard things said about them that they have never heard and that they don’t hear nearly often enough.

I asked them to take the Post-it home to share with a spouse or a friend or family member. Let’s keep the conversation about what God has done in us going!

Now, it’s up to us to work out what He’s worked in!

As you come to the close of a huddle, this is a good exercise for people to use to share what they’ve learned and observed about one another. Shared in the context of grace, it’s powerful.

What have you done to draw people out to encourage and challenge one another?

Keep discipling!
