Setting a spiritual goal is important if you want to grow. Never underestimate the power that comes from writing down a specific spiritual growth goal.
So, as he set his goals for 2014, one of his biggest was to ask God to increase his level of joy.
Recently, I asked him how he was doing in his search for more joy. Here's what he shared with me:
"Rick, here are my thoughts / observations from my joy-seeking year.
"I've used some tools that help and identified habits that detract and needed to be pruned.
"1. Get engaged with God daily.

"Preferably mornings as my time in prayer / his word gave me a good compass for the day. It helped me to believe and focus that God will give me the tools and provisions needed for each day. This focus also helps me to remove worry from my day which robs me of Joy.
"2. Engage with other Christians weekly.

"Being consumed daily in worldly matters through non-Christian (work, family) perspectives can mar my view of life and God’s purpose for me, causing me to yearn for things that aren’t satisfying.
"3. Look for the good in each day.
"3. Look for the good in each day.
"Too often I focus on long term (qtrly / yearly goals) objectives and rob myself of the joy that God provides me each day. My Wins in life become more expected and classified as a task completed instead of taking the time to appreciate the joy in the days that comprise the seasons of my life. Conversely my Trials are hardships I bear and don’t relinquish to God (or others) and suppresses the Joy he brings me through those times.
"I read Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller and Can I Have Joy in My Life by R.C. Sproul. The second book was very helpful to me because it focused on distancing oneself from temporal happiness (and sin) and focusing on what God has done for me - and praying to have the joy of my salvation restored.
"I’ll continue learning and seeking His Joy in 2015."

So, what spiritual goals do you need to make for 2015?
