Recently, Jeff received a call from the Boys & Girls Club that during a Sunday service two laptops had been stolen. The laptops contained sensitive material which needed to be recovered. The Boys and Girls Club also said that the theft might also result in Forward Church not being allowed to use the facility.
Understandably, Jeff and his volunteers began to pray. By God's grace, Jeff and volunteers actually located the laptops in the neighborhood. They had been sold by the thieves for $500 on the streets. The person who purchased them was willing to get them back to the church and the Boys and Girls Club, but there was no way around paying the $500 that this individual paid to purchase them.
Jeff and his team members drove around considering how to pay for the stolen laptops. The church just didn’t have an extra $500. Jeff spoke to his team about the fact that these kinds of things must happen. He said that it was actually good that thieves were coming to Forward Church. He told his team that the day items stop being stolen (or at least attempts at stealing stop) is the day he will know they, as a church, are not truly engaging the people they have been called to reach. Jeff talked about how trusting that God is in control of all things is necessary to fulfill their calling to redeem a broken, urban community like Slavic Village.
About 10 minutes after finding out the cost of retrieving these laptops, Jeff and his team went to the home of a woman who had been served food from Forward Church for quite some time. As Jeff walked into her home, this struggling grandmother said to him, “I just received this check back from the government for $5000. Can I just pay you my tithe now?" Their jaws completely dropped as this woman counted out $500 in cash. This was used immediately to pay for the laptops which were delivered in perfect condition back to the Boys and Girls Club.
Jeff said, “God has our back! God is in control of every variable in our calling. It is good to know He is on this journey with Forward Church and its leaders. God is with us in this pursuit of redeeming this community.”
Thanks, CVC, for your generosity to support CVC! You need to know that some the dollars you give to CVC flow through our Missions budget to support Jeff and Forward Church. It is a real privilege for CVC to partner spiritually and financially with Jeff and Forward Church as they reach a needy people in Slavic Village.
